I’m always pleasantly surprised to spy a simple, unintentional thread stitching together the vast menagerie of details that was our life during the week. Currently, this thread was none other than the art of folding.
Now, there’s no need to panic. Set aside any judgement and cause for concern. The piles of laundry that build up on the daily have not been lying around for years; painstakingly waiting for this art of folding to make a week of itself. But since it fits nicely with the trending theme it’s allowed to claim some well-deserved fibers of our thread. Plus, there is something to be noted regarding the knack for folding items to politely fit allotted spaces as well as the mundanely important task of training young hands in the mastering of this folding business. However, the structure of this post is in danger of rapidly unfolding if we linger on laundry any longer.
That bring us to paper. I leave my paper flat. At most I fold it flatly to fit in an envelope. At least I did until a couple days ago when we found ourselves sifting through a pile of origami paper. A friend had stopped by for a chat. We provided tea and noise; she provided lovely paper and a lesson on cranes. Before we knew it, we had quite the flock swooping around puddles of sloshed tea. A parliament of owls, kaleidoscope of butterflies and a stray cat quickly joined the party. Paper squares, precise folding and voila! We really should quit expecting so little out of our paper.

Perhaps that origami lesson awakened a newfound confidence in my fingertips that the improbably unfoldable ~ for me, that is! ~ was actually quite probable and foldable! No sooner had I kicked off my church shoes this morning than I was nose deep in a 2 min. YouTube tutorial, folding and weaving our palms into ‘circular roses’ and ‘crown of thorns’. While there is certainly nothing wrong with straight palms gracing the rooms of your home, I assure you that 2 minutes and a mere handful of folds result in blessed braids and bouquets.

Whatever other thematic thread may strew the upcoming days together I am wishing you a peaceful and fruitful Holy Week!
